The Guardians of York

A group of 3 Inconnu. Guarding a family in York who they believe will produce the 'woman with the sign of the moon' mentioned in the Book of Nod in connection with the coming of Gehenna. They keep this a big secret because:-

  1. They don't want other groups interferring.
  2. The other Inconnu won't approve because they have been subtly influencing the Fief to maintain stability.

They have established the new Primogen to restore the old order.

The Inconnu are all Brujah. They were created at the end of the Carthaginian empire, during the last battles with Rome. They fled north with their sire after the fall of Carthage and established a new home far beyond Ventrue control. At first the Guardians believed in their Sire's teachings, that only by wise and just rule by Vampires could humanity prosper. However, they came to respect the people among who they had settled and realised the the rule of Kindred in general made the lives of their subjects worse. Together, they killed their sire and withdrew from direct rule of mortals, intervening only to drive away or kill other Vampires who tried to rule their people.

When their tribes moved to England during the great migrations, the Guardians followed. Under their protection the Saxons prospered in their new lands. When the Vikings came, the Guardians were torn between the need they felt to protect their chosen and their vows of non-intervention. The resolution to their dilemma came in a strange way.

After the final sack of Iona, the Guardians were searching through the ruins, hoping to save what remained of the island treasures. Within the broken ruins of an altar, the found the incomplete remains of an illuminated manuscript of great beauty. Although parts were written in languages they could not understand, they quickly came to realise that the fragments spoke of the events which were to surround Gehenna and told of the coming of 'the woman bearing the sign of the moon' upon whose fate apocalypse would hinge. They decided that they had discovered a sign leading them to a higher purpose, to save all of humanity from the horrors of Gehenna.

Over the years, they have understood more of the manuscript, in conjunction with other documents they have found. They believe the child will be born in York, called Jorvik in the manuscript and that they have identified her family. They have spent many hundreds of years protecting this family. They believe that the woman they wait for will descend through the youngest daughter of each generation.

The Guardians have watched over the fief ever since it's birth. They have an 'understanding' with de Lascy. If he will rule the fief in such a way as to promote peace and stability, then the Guardians will exert their influence to help him. The Guradians also have 'understandings' with the Garou of the area.
