Background

Bored little rich kid of upper-class parents. Managed to scrape into Oxford (the donation to the College Fund might possibly have helped - no, surely not). Spent the whole time drinking, doing various drugs and developing a healthy aversion to work. When he left with his third class degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics, he seemed doomed to a life of frivolous boredom.

Then, at a party in London, he met a friend of a friend who showed him a marvellous new game. Not only fun in itself, but a way of keeping him in funds, stealing cars proved to be infinately more entertaining than the dreadfully dull city jobs his friends were drifting into. To the surprise of his family, he suddenly developed an uncharacteristic interest in business and became part owner of a sports car dealership. At first, his parents were unsure. A car salesman was not quite what they had in mind. However, they were awfully expensive cars, so perhaps it wasn't too dreadful after all. Only his sister, who hovered on the edge of the same set of friends had any idea of the truth behind it.

So for a while, life was fine. However, there proved to be other parties interested in stolen cars in London and, business booming, it was inevitable that he would step on a few toes. Buoyed up by his own confidence and the ease of everything so far, James took the necessary steps. Things spirallled out of control and in a stunningly short time, James found himself with several dead bodies to account for and the police closing in.

It was then that the Colonel stepped forward with his offer. James lept greatfully at the chance to get out of his mess. As far as his parents are aware, he has moved his dealership north to Leeds, where he is living with his sister. Not long after his Embrace, his sister caught James feeding on one of the mechanics in his garage. To ensure her silence, James has kept her close by him, Dominated and Blood bonded. She has also proved useful at allying any fears and suspicions in his family about his 'health'. However, she is becoming increasingly depressed and afraid of him. At some point, if she doesn't do so first by herself, James fears he may have to arrange an 'accident'. Since she is so useful to him though, he is hoping to avoid it for as long as possible.

James is more than a bit unhinged. He was never very stable when he was mortal and the Embrace has done nothing for his state of mind. James loves playing 'practical jokes', especially befriending young mortals and getting them deeply involved in his crimes before killing them or turning them over to the police. Driving stolen cars very fast is still his greatest pleasure after feeding and he enjoys scaring his 'young friends' as much as possible. He has escaped several serious crashes, including some fires. He says that the secret is to not wear a seatbelt, so that when the crash happens you are thrown through the windscreen. Most of the other Kindred think he is mad.

James has a rather on/off friendship with Marie's Childe Damien. Sometimes James persuades Damien to help in his entrapment of mortals, with James enticing young men into crime while Damien keeps troublesome wives or girlfriends occupied. Although James and Damien are very similar in temperament, they often argue. James knows that Damien is still rather touchy about his background and likes to bring the subject up to tease him.
