Damien

Background

Damien (no last name, just call me Damien) is a very suave sophisticated charmer. He is never out of his depth in the company of Elders or flustered by even the most complex social tangles. This is entirely a veneer he has built up to cover his very humble background. As a mortal, he joined the army when he finished school. His ambition was to join the SAS but he left the army, almost voluntarily, after only two years. Out of work and unskilled in anything not involving aggression, he became a bodyguard. After working in several firms, he found himself continually thinking "I could do it better than that", so started his own company. He was right and A.S.N.S Security (Always Safe, Never Sorry) expanded quicky.

Determined to advance himself socially as well as financially, he spent his spare time studying etiquette manuals, reading the right books and watching the right films. By the time he met Marie he had become the 'security expert to the stars' (ie. arranging security for the rich and famous, both personal bodyguards and home security). Marie was looking for someone who could ensure her safety in the dangerous modern world. Damien was the best in the field. He is also charming, handsome and attentive, attributes Marie had always looked for in a Childe. Underneath it, however, he is hard, ruthless and even rather cruel. Marie liked this too.

Damien has had no difficulty in adjusting to life as a vampire. In fact, he could be considered something of a natural. He has never had any problems with the idea of killing in order to survive and he loves the Disciplines and physical powers. While he understands that Marie has him blood-bonded, he prides himself on the fact that his cold and ruthless nature is rather unsuceptible to it's emotional powers. He tells himself that he is willingly attatched to Marie because of her powerful position in the fief. However, he has never really been called upon to act against her wishes and will almost cetainly find it much harder than he has convinced himself it would be.

Damien loves to use his new powers of attraction and control over mortals. It amuses him that he now has the influence his background and profession denied him. He can easily enslave the kind of women who would have scorned him in his previous incarnation of security expert. Now, however, he wants power amongs the undead. Fundamentally, he is still rather insecure about his background and position. Perhaps this similarity to herself was one of the things which attracted Marie to him.

Appart from Marie, Damien closest friend is James Cormier. Damien is not a member of T'Lads, however, thinking their exploits rather childish. Although Damien and James often argue, they always make up because deep down they understand each other. One thing that irritates Damien is James' lack of ambition and his fundamental laziness, despite all the advantages he was born with.

The one Toreador in the fief Damien does not get on with is Branwell Bronte. Although most of the malice is on Branwell's part, Damien finds Branwell's sulks and tantrums intensely annoying. At least part of the reason for this is rivalry over Marie's affections, although Damine doesn't admit this, even to himself.
