Doreen FulleyloveBackgroundDoreen was the head librarian of the Leeds city library and a devout Methodist. During her reign there, any books of which she 'disapproved' were kept locked away in the basement. These were mostly occult textbooks and books on spiritualism. People were allowed to inspect them only if they could provide Doreen with extensive proof that they had a 'legitimate' scholarly reason. However, Doreen herself had developed a secret interest in the books. She often stayed late at the library in order to study them. Although she never attempted any of the rituals in the books, she often felt tempted to and wondered if they would work. Then one night, as she was reading, she was disturbed by a strange intruder. He offered her a great deal of money if she would give him two of the books. Naturally, Doreen refused and rang the bell to summon the night porter. What happened next remained rather confused in her mind, but she remembered the flash of fangs as the stranger's hands reached for her throat. When she regained consciousness, she was lying in the center of the floor and the night porter was standing in the doorway. Although he looked around the room, he seemed completely unable to see her. Doreen realised at once what had happened. The stranger had attacked her and killed her in order to steal the books. As punishment for her sinful interest in the occult books and her pride in thinking she was a suitable guardian for them, the Good Lord had turned her into a ghost. She was doomed to haunt the library until she had suitably atoned for all her sins. Since then, Doreen has remained firm in her beliefs about her condition. Several of the older vampires have attempted to talk to her but largely she ignores them. As far as she is concerned, vampires are evil creatures of the Devil, which she will have nothing to do with. Over the decades, one or two of the kindred of the fief have got to know Doreen, although she tends to forget she knows them. Matthew McCrae especially takes an interest in her, mostly because of their shared faith. He would be very angry if anyone tried to hurt her. In her more lucid moments, she can be quite talkative, although even then she never seems to realise what she is. She keeps up her collection of occult books, which she has hidden in a secret basement. From time to time, she will leave the library to take more books. Over the years, she has become more discriminatory and only takes genuine occult texts. As a result, she has amassed a collection which would put some Tremere chantries to shame. ClanMalkavian, generation 9, age "67", born 1795, embraced 1862, by ???, arrived.ImageDoreen has a rather pinched, horsey face and wears her iron-grey hair in a tight bun. She wears pince-nez. Doreen dresses exactly as she did it life. She looks like a very prim Victorian librarian. Her years of almost constant obfuscation have left a 'residue' so that even when she is visible, she has a hazy, insubstantial quality. Most of the younger vampires in the fief believe she really is a ghost. Doreen will ignore most attempts at conversation. If eventually persuaded to speak she speaks very 'properly' and will use no words coined after her breathing days.InfluenceDoreen has almost no influence in the fief. Some of the older Vampires suspect the existance of her occult library and would pay a great deal if they knew of it's contents.Secrets-HabitatDoreen lives exclusively in the Leeds central library. Although she does venture out, she always uses obfuscate and usually 'forgets' the trips soon afterwards. These excursions are always in order to 'collect' an occult book she has heared about. As a ghost, Doreen has never realised she has a need for blood. She feeds exclusively on patrons of the library although the memory of feeding disappears from her mind as soon as she had finished. She has a small herd of regulars about whom she feels protective, although she doesn't realise why. She will often help them in their research, leaving books she feels they would find useful lying on their desks. Ultimate GoalDoreen wants to keeps her collection of books safe and work towards repentance for the sins of her life, so she can progress to heaven.Immediate GoalDoreen is interested in Rudolph Schumann's literary endevours. Although Doreen would always say it is not in her nature to think ill of people without reason, she is suspicious of his trips to collect books. She is contemplating a trip to his Haven to see what she can find.ResourcesLots of occult books. |
