Paul-Emile Reynaud

Background

Paul was a wonder, a miracle, a gift from heaven, or so his mother always told him. He had greatest voice in the world, praised whereever he went, even once singing for the Pope himself. The world would be always at his feet. He would never have to suffer, to struggle, to sacrifice, as she had done for him. Life would be easy.

Yet, whenever he saw the anger and jealousy in his brothers' eyes when she ignored their achievments and praised Paul, he knew it wouldn't last. Even though she tried to keep the stories from him, he knew that when his voice changed, the was no guarantee that he would have an equally beautiful adult voice. And if that happened to him, would he still be Mama's golden boy?

When Eduard came to him in Florence, Paul was already afraid that the magic was fading from his voice. Afraid of the loss of his sophrano voice, he was subconciously speeding the process. He felt the tug of the outside world too strongly and the dedication and singlemindedness demanded by the hours of practice was no longer there. Eduard offered an escape, even though Paul didn't fully understand the consequences of the path he chose.

Most Kindred who are Embraced when still children quickly come to resent their Sire for imprisoning them in such an inconvenient and inadequate form as well as suffering from emotional problems. However, Paul accepted his Embrace willingly, at least in part because of a subconcious desire to remain a child. At the moment, the Blood bond is keeping him close to Eduard and even happy. However, it is almost certainly only a matter of time before the inevitable rupture between Sire and Childe begins to make itself felt.

Paul is a great favourite of Marie's. She treats him like a little child, a fiction he seems happy to play along with. She indulges and spoils him shamelessly, despite Eduard's occasional protests. Over the years Marie has spent a fortune on him, mostly in the form of antique tin and lead soldiers (although no post-Revolution French uniforms - Paul has had to fill that gap in his collection himself). Marie also has an exceptional sophrano voice, in fact rather better than Paul's. She sometimes gives him lessons, although she is hardly a consistant or rigorous teacher. Perhaps Marie's attention to Paul is best explained by a need to keep an interest in all of Eduard's emotional investments.

Clan

Toreador, generation 9, age "12", born 1864, embraced 1976, by St-Simeon, arrived 1979.

Image

Paul is a handsome boy with light blonde hair but dark eyes. Had he lived to adulthood, it is probably that his hair would have darkened but it remains a pale golden halo around his eternally cherubic face. The angelic appearance is heightned by the fact that he is rather short and slender for his mortal years. As with all Kindred Embraced as children, this causes him a measure of inconvenience. His style of clothing depends on his suroundings. By choice, he prefers modern dress. When attending Toreador events in Elysium, he dresses in more old fashioned clothes to please his Sire.

Influence

Paul is a member of the ruling Toreador clique. However, the facade of youth he presents makes it difficult for him to politic openly. However, a carefully placed comment to Marie or Eduard can have a powerful result and Paul is an expert at this method of manipulating his Elders.

Habitat

Paul lives with Eduard at his Haven, although they both stay with Marie on occasion. St-Simeon does not like Paul to go out on his own and especially resents him making friends amongst the other Kindred. However, he is not so stupid as to foster his Childe's resentment by forbidding such things. Nevertheless, Paul 'prefers' to spend most of his time with Eduard, although he attends most of the Toreador parties.

Ultimate Goal

To please Eduard and make him happy. Paul vocal skills have improved in the years since his Embrace and he is now quite famous in Kindred circles.
